While thrown is a skill that is ultimately used in Busy Bees it is not a check viewed by focus tea. Your abilitiy to hit someone with a wad of honey is based on your thrown, however, is skill checked against the opponents defence.
I appreciate any extra information reguarding focus tea results. If you'd like to contribute to this please make a copy of your magic skills and your focus tea results and mail them to me witches "Discworld Focus Tea" in the subject line. However, due to focus tea restraints a magic.spells.special bonus of 150 or higher is required.
During the spell you throw honey at an NPC/PK, you summon a swarm of bees who are attracted to the honey and hope the summoned swarm of bees attacks said target. During spell failure either you will be "disgusted" which results from low skills in everything but throwing or you'll miss hitting the NPC or they'll dodge it which is a result of a low throwing bonus. You can cast this spell mutliple times onto one target if you choose.
This is an amazing TM spell if you learn how to use it properly. You throw "dollops" of honey at an NPC/PK. The more dollops the more bees. So think of the ultimate goal as to being throwing MANY dollops of honey and bringing the whole beehive down upon your victim. Begin with 1 dollop, when TMs slow down move to 5 dollops. Continue to increase the amount of honey that you use. Honey is a reproducing element in the game and can be found in various Witches Gardens, Player Shoppes, and NPC Shoppes.
Unfortunately, throwing does not TM nearly as nicely as the other skills will. This is also the most important skill since the spell is checked against your throwing abilities. If you really wish to prosper as a bees caster you may want to invest some XP into this nonprimary.
Another warning is that your victim is not incompetent. With a swarm of bees attacking they will run from the room. With more difficult/dangerous targets this can be nice because it gives you a "hunting" advantage, however, if this becomes too much of a hassle you can turn to Gammer Shorga's Helpful Undergrowth.
Nanna Jehane Von Bruxa very kindly sent me some of her research results which concern the casting times of bees.
| ma.sp.off bonus | Casting Time |
| 248 | 32 |
| 268 | 30 |
| 277 | 28 |
| 278 | 28 |
| 220 | 26 |
| 284 | 22 |
| 288 | 20 |
| 296 | 17 |
| 301 | 15 |
| 308 | 13 |
| 313 | 12 |
| 319 | 11 |
From Nanna Jehane: Time is in seconds, btw, measured by the Discworld clock, using an alias that did time; cast spell; time to remove the influence of the lag as much as possible. Error margin would be around 1 or 2 seconds :p
Though I lost the enchanting data, they were very peculiar. The casting time first started to go down at bonus in misc 150, to around 15 seconds I think at bonus 195 or so, to go back up to a minute at bonus 201, and then deteriorate again slowly, and a bit more strongly after bonus 250.... Worth to reinvestigate, anyway.
Bees will arrive in swarms such as "5 bees enter the room" or "many bees enter the room". Disclaimer: Research results are "theories". Take them with a grain of salt. They're luverly guidelines to work with but cannot always be guaranteed.
