Money
The economic situation of the Discworld is that there is really an unlimited amount of money available and really no economic market. This means that there is no end to the amount of money you can gain. Particularly for younger players money is of great interest because it's often most difficult for a newbie to come by.
The three main ways to get cash on the Discworld is through: 1) killing things and looting their corpses, 2) selling a service or item, and 3) searching the streets. The first two are generally the most reliable source of income but the third one will always work in a pinch.
1) Killing things and then taking the coins and often items from it (to sell) provide a nice income. However, you first need some combat skills to kill anything that actually carries currency.
2) Particularly within the witches guild there are a variety of spells and commands that can be used as a service to earn money. Such jobs as enchanting, brewing, crystals, and deluding. However, don't allow commands and spells to limit you. A Henne can always be enterprising and industrious and start her own business whether it's delivering items, selling components, reading caroc cards, match making service, seeking an apprenticeship with an older with, running errands etc.
3) Using "search" on the city streets of places such as Ankh-Morpork and Bes Pelargic often result in finding small change (though occassionally larger currency) as well as items that can be sold to general stores.
Initially money may be difficult to come by but it does get easier.
Some other money issues you need to be aware of involve Forn Currency and Banks:
Forn Currency
The Discworld is an expansive area and most places use their own form of currency. "help currency" on the MUD will list quite a bit of information, however, the currencies you'll most be likely to use are:
Provincial: Brass, Copper, Silver, Gold, and Platinum coins
Ankh-Morpork: Pence, Dollar, and Royal coins
Djelibeybi: Ptascp, Talon, Toon, Talent, Ra and Thanra coins
Genua: Cent, Livre, Forin, Ducat
Lancre: Farthing, Ha'penny, Penny, Tuppence, Thruppence, Sixpence, Shilling, and Crown coins
Bes Pelargic: Agatean Empire Rhinu coins and notes
Using "money" on the MUD will list the money you currently have in your inventory. A handy apparatus is a currency converter, this one is provided by Pendrake.
You'll also find local establishments which offer currency converters handy. Word of caution though, Bes Pelargic currency can only be changed in Bes Pelargic and whilst in Bes Pelargic only Ankh-Morpork currency can be changed.
Banks
From "help bank": A bank provides a place to store money, safe from loss and theft. Some banks have branches in more than one area, ensuring you can retrieve your money in a different place than you stored it. Banks will charge an administration fee (typically 5-10%) on deposits, with withdrawals being free of charge. This fee, however, may well be justified if it avoids you losing your life's savings next time you wander inadvertently into the Shades.
Banks are additionally important in regards to becoming over burdended from carrying heavy coins. In the banking world there are Player Banks as well as regular banks. Player Banks are ran by players and tend to be less expensive though sometimes the bank can "fill up" or be "empty" which will then cause depositing and withdrawing problems. Regular banks tend to charge more but you'll always be able to withdraw and deposit.
