Magic Items

When casting spells, brewing teas and doing other Witchy things you'll run across certain items which are necessary to succesfully complete them. Below are a list of items and how you may go about finding them.

Apples (or other fruits)

Apples can be bought from almost any fruit stand around the Discworld and are found for free in Granny's washstand drawer and the apple orchard located in NE Bad Ass as well as in Black Glass. Just outside of DJB during the right seasons you can also obtain melons. Throughout the Ramtops there are two apple orchards: one in Bad Ass and one in Mad Wolf. Overall, look at any map and you'll find an abundance of fruit shops.

Used for: Mother Harblist's Fruity Flyer, Goody Whemper's Apple Divination, and a method of feeding one's bat.

Basket of Poisoned Apples

These highly coveted apples can be found in a basket in the Ginger Bread Cottage in Skund Forest. (The same house which has the broom.) Other than here they can be found in the Fruit Shop off of God's Street in AM and baskets can be found at a store sw of The Drum that is a Basket Store.

Used for: tempting individuals

Bottles

Bottles can be found in some part of almost all of the Witches cottages.

Used for: making tea

Broomsticks

Bronze Helm

A bronze helm can be obtained for a few royals from player shops or the T-shop. When worn,they raise int by three and wis by two while con is somewhat lowered. Be careful, though. If you wear one for too long, you will die.

Used for: a stat item

Candles

White candles can be found in the drawer or on the shelf in Granny's kitchen. Specific red candles can be purchased from Harmony Stardancer in AM. Prepared with honeycombs and a wick you can make your own beeswax candles at Flaudia's.

Used for: circling and Mama Blackwing's Potent Preserver.

Crystals

These can be purchased from Hilta's stall in Ohulan Cutash, or in Mama Diksha's shop on Ming Lane in Bes Pelargic. They can also be obtained for free by first entering Hilta's stall, then entering her back room using "enter doorway". In here you can "search shelf" to hopefully find a box containing the crystals.

Crystals can be imbued with certain spells. The wearer of these crystals gain similar benefits as the spells they are imbued with until the crystal evantually breaks.

Crystal imbueable spells are: "Hag's Blessing", "Granny Lipintense's Layer of Lard", "Wee Flaudia's Fluffy Ear Muffs", "Banishing of Prying Eyes" and "Banishing of Unnatural Urges".

Divining Bob

Divining bobs can be obtained from Hilta's stall in Ohulan Cultash. In theory divining bobs are similar to wizard's thaumometers and measure the background magic of a room by dangling them and reading them by their swings and sways. After a discussion with our fearless guild leader Woom apparently divining bobs do function properly, however, report rather vague and general findings.

Used for: measuring background magic levels

Duck Feathers

From the pond in Dinky, "chase duck" and "get feather", from the Pearl River (need to swim) in CWC, and from Mum Blithesome's pillow in Sto Lat. Watch out though because in a variety of places on the Disc are duck NPCs that are easy to kill and you can obtain feathers from them. These are consumed during the casting of a spell so you may want to stock up on these.

Used for: Granny Lipintense's Layer of Lard

Eel Skins

From the pond in Dinky, "catch eel" then hold a knifw and "skin eel with knife". The skin does not rot away.

Used for: Granny Lipintense's Layer of Lard

Frogs

To obtain a frog go to Granny's kitchen. Open the middle drawer and get the broken tea-strainer from there. Go to the bedroom, search under the bed and there you'll find a chamber pot. Get the chamber pot and the stockings from the drawers. Head to the scullery and close the window. Repair the strainer with the stockings, "repair strainer with stockings", and "fish frog from well". You should end up with a frog in the chamber pot. Frogs are also available from Flaudia's cottage by searching where the frog sounds come from in her living room.

Used for: Mama Blackwing's Potent Preserver

Goat Pellets

Can be obtained in Granny's lean-to and in the yard of the McSweeney estate.

Hag Stones

There are two sorts of Hag Stones. Small ones and Large ones which contain a hole running through them. The small ones can be found on the path from Granny's to Lancre as well as along the roads in the Ramtop terrains. The large ones can be found at the creek south of Gran's, the bridge to Bad Ass, the terrain rooms of Pictsie barrows, the stream that runs through Scrogden, the river in Bes Pelargic, around Creel Springs, and I'm sure they're available in some other places. To find out what's been stored inside of a stone use: "listen to (hag) stone".

The smaller ones are used for imbuing guild spells to be educed at a later time and the large ones for tricks.

Hives

Almost every witches cottage around the Disc has a few hives and in CWC you'll want to visit Confetti Lane.

Leather Gloves

Leather dexterity gloves can be obtained for a few royals from player shops or the T-shop. When worn,they raise dex by two and lower strength by one. Wearing these drain GP and lowers your heart beat (the amount of gp that is generated every heartbeat).

Used for: a stat item

Occult Jewelry

You can get occult jewelry at Harmony Stardancers near the southern point of Short St NE of it's junction with Endless St, from Nora's stall in Lancre, from Mellie Thistlewistle's stall in the center of the Plaza of Broken Moons, and Nora's in Lancre square. Here you can purchase the black and white ceremonial knives, red candles, bats, grails and a variety of other occult items.

Used for: making circles.

Owl Feathers

Go to Scrogden and find the npc called Hughoc. Say "The swing is broken." in front of him, and he should go fix the swing in the south-western part of the garden for you. You may have to give him a reminder, though. When he is done, "swing on swing" and "get a feather from tree".

Used for: making intelligence tea.

Smelly Seeds

First, make sure you know Mother Twinter's Yarrow Enchantment. If there's a short ladder somewhere outside Granny's cottage, stand by it and go up, to get to the roof. Otherwise, go to The Herbs and type "get undergrowth". Find the nanny goat around the cottage, and type "lead goat with undergrowth". The goat should follow you. Lead it back to The Herbs, where it should expose the ladder. Get the ladder and "lean" it somewhere outside the cottage, and type up to get to the roof. When you are up on the roof, type "gather seeds" until you have a few ivy seeds. Then head to Granny's lean-to. There get a few goat pellets, "get pellet".

To make a smelly seed, enchant a pellet, then "place a ivy seed in pellet", and wait a moment, and a smelly seed should be created.

Should you be in Bes Pelargic, you can get ivy seeds from a plant on Onetwolong Avenue, and goat pellets from the lean-to on the McSweeney estate.

Used for: Gammer Shorga's Helpful Undergrowth

Taliswoman

The taliswoman is provided to Wet Hennes from Gennie Applebottom's or the Djelibeybi caravan for an instant one time travel to Granny's in Bad Ass and back. However, these only work to guild level 20 at which point you'll have to get yourself a broom or a good pair of walking shoes.

WARNING: To use these you have to obtain them yourself. If you've gotten one pre-guild level 20 it doesn't matter, it still won't work after guild level 20.

Used for: roundtrip travel

Willow Withes

Just south of Granny's cottage is a stream with a willow tree overhanging it. Using a knife "cut withe from will with knife".

Used for: Mother Brynda's Call of Gravity

Witches Hat

For a Lancastrian witch the hat is of undeniable importance. In Granny's eyes it's what makes a witch a witch. There is one available at Granny's cottage (I recommend taking a gander at the coat hook in the kitchen) and a few shops around the Discworld sell them as well.
